Shannon is a natural leader who demonstrates compassion and empathy and provides the highest quality of care to her clients.
Shannon Jeski is the Senior Community Health Nurse for HHS and she is the perfect candidate to receive the DAISY Award. She provides oversight to other nurses in the service line and provides support to all of the Care Managers whenever possible. Shannon is an integral part of the HHS leadership team and not only provides clinical input but also brings a bubbly and welcoming personality to the table.

Over the last few months, Shannon has had the opportunity to share some touching stories about her time in the field and each one shows how passionate she is, not only as a nurse but as a human being in general. Shannon is a natural leader who demonstrates compassion and empathy and provides the highest quality of care to her clients. The story I would like to present is one that really shows how passionate Shannon is.

One day she received a request for services for a woman living in a homeless shelter. Shannon was not sure if the needs were in line with what we were able to provide in a setting such as a shelter, but she decided to go meet with the person anyway. Shannon described the situation as pretty bleak. She said the shelter was scheduled to close in the coming week and this person did not have set plans as to where she would be going, but was hoping to have something established soon. Shannon said the smell of the shelter was horrible and the woman was in desperate need of some personal care, but there were no resources available. Shannon said that her visit could have been short as the woman didn’t want to get out of her cot and remained lying down the entire time, but she couldn’t let herself leave. Shannon sat with the woman for 3 hours just talking to her. Shannon said that at the time she wasn’t able to provide much help, but the very least she could do was sit with her so she wasn’t alone.

The following day Shannon shared this story with me and she was completely moved by how severe the situation was. She said she put the rest of her day off and worked late just to spend time with this person because they had no one. Not many people would have done this, but Shannon’s kindness and compassion made her stay. Shannon’s passion, dedication, and true empathy drive how she performs in her role as an RN. I personally have only known Shannon for a total of 6 months and already have many stories I could share about how amazing she is as a nurse. She provides support in many ways that could never be fully captured in a blurb such as this and always goes above and beyond.
