Shannon took care of my father after his routine surgery in September. From the moment he arrived on the floor, she gave compassionate care- just as if my dad was her own. She was his nurse every day during the time he was in the hospital, until the time he passed away. She was so fun to joke around with and Dad would ask for her by name anytime he needed anything, or felt like something was off. Shannon was quick to call the PA to bedside when she couldn't maintain Dad's blood pressure, and pulled out of him that he was having chest pain. She did the chest pain protocol and found that Dad was having a heart attack and was going in to renal failure. She called each specialist to bedside and we came up with a plan to send him to the Cath lab.
Unfortunately, it was found that Dad's heart was in such bad shape that he likely wouldn't make it through a bypass surgery that he so seriously needed. Dad was taken back to CTICU after the heart catheterization, and was made comfort care. Shannon came over to CTICU after Dad passed to give us condolences and talk about what an impact he made on her as well. I can't thank her enough! She is so deserving of this Award.
