Sharimar connected with him in a way I have never seen someone do.
My son was in a terrible accident when he was 10. He sustained a severe traumatic brain injury. He is now nonverbal and unable to use his body as he wishes. As his Mom over the past 4 years, I have learned how to communicate with him and learn how he communicates his needs and wants. He was admitted to the PICU after having back surgery. He was in so much pain and was struggling big time. Sharimar connected with him in a way I have never seen someone do. She learned how he communicates his needs. She went above and beyond to make sure he felt comfortable and heard. For a typical kid that may not be so huge but for someone whom most people overlook, most people talk to like a baby because he is nonverbal, for a kid who is in so much pain and has no way to obviously tell you, she figured it out. She learned his facial expressions she took care of him like he was her own and she made sure that the oncoming nurses knew what sounds meant what looks meant what sweating meant and how to get him to crack a smile. She is amazing!
