I had been playing golf with my buddies and they noticed that I was slurring my words and behaving oddly. They called 911 and I was brought to Baptist Health. In the Emergency Department, the Doctor's performed several procedures and I seemed to be returning to normal. The Doctor found out I had episodes like this before and decided to keep me. I was brought to 3A, where a kind and caring nurse cared for me. Shelby Hunt was so attentive in her assessment and noticed that I had developed facial dropping. She immediately got in touch with Dr. G and I was moved to the Critical Care Unit. It was evident to Shelby that I was experiencing a Stroke. My symptoms were recognized so quickly that from the time my symptoms started until I had the clot buster going in my vein was only 47 minutes. Shelby saw that I was frightened and she stayed at my side and held my hand throughout the administration of the medication. She explained to me what was going on, and kept re-assuring me that I would be fine. Her support and concern, and staying 2 hours over after her shift to be with me, is going above and beyond what anyone would expect. I am so thankful for her wonderful care.
