From the moment I arrived in the ER at UPMC Hamot every staff member I encountered was kind, compassionate, skilled, and very knowledgeable. One nurse in particular I will always be thankful for. Her name is Shirley Lee and she works night shift on the medical-surgical floor. Even though it was the middle of the night when I arrived at my room, she immediately settled me in to my room and made me feel comfortable. She set my mind at ease and I trusted her 100% with my care. Shirley should not only be recognized for her nursing skills but also for the kindness and compassion she shows, down to the smallest detail. She's the main reason that my recovery was successful and I'm certain she will carry over that quality of care to others. Big thanks also from my family. Five days after my admission my mother and I saw Shirley and although she was not my assigned nurse for the night, she greeted us in the hallway so kindly and she remembered that my mother drank black coffee and brought some to her.
