Words cannot express my gratitude for Nurse Sommer and her extraordinary care of my adult son. It is a rare occasion to interact with someone who brings such unconditional care and unrestricted love to her profession. For sure the pleasure was all ours. What a testament to the commitment to the vision and values of LSU to be a global medical and academic leader and to change and save lives.

My son dodged a deer and opted for the ditch, taking out a light pole. Residents were without power and he rolled down a ravine and subsequently totaled his truck. The deer nonchalantly galloped away into the thickets. My son suffered significant damage to his left knee, tearing tendons and ligaments. His whole knee was unstable and disconnected. It's been a very long journey.

And then Nurse Sommer comes to the rescue. We believe she has cared for my son before. He has had six surgical procedures and today is expected to be the last. Nurse Sommer is loving and caring, thoughtful, a thorough communicator, and responsive. I saw her work with other nurses on the team. She's funny and brought comedic relief to this tragedy. She's thorough in her profession. She had to shave my son's leg, put him in a dress, and put a stocking on the uninjured leg. She's kind and gentle, respectful. She valued my son's dignity. She is appreciated. We appreciate Nurse Sommer.
