Within a few minutes, he was gone, and knowing Sophie was there to take good care of him made it bearable.
My father was brought to JSUMC with COVID-19, his pulse oxygen was not getting better so they brought him to NW6 where he had an amazing nurse, Sophie. She taught my dad how to Facetime so we can continue to communicate. I met Sophie through Facetime, her attention to keeping my dad comfortable and keeping me updated on his status amazing!
Later that night the team informed my dad that the next step was a ventilator, which he declined saying he had a good long life, so he was placed on hospice.
She Facetimed us and told us that my voice helped to calm my dad and that made me feel better. I told my dad how much I love him and that I would take care of my mom who has dementia, is blind, and also contracted COVID-19. Within a few minutes, he was gone, and knowing Sophie was there to take good care of him made it bearable.
After Sophie’s shift, she called me to check on me. A few days later, my mom was also admitted and passed.
With all the disgusting things going on in this world right now, I just needed to let someone from JS know what an outstanding nurse and human Sophie is. I want to let her know that she will hold a special place in my heart until my last breath.
