A patient was born with a congenital malformation incompatible with life. The patient was showing signs of a decline in status. The parents of this infant elected to withdraw care. They did not wish to be present while the patient declined, or while interventions were removed. Stephanie held the patient while the infant passed from this Earth, providing comfort in the final moments. She supported the parents of the patient by respecting and honoring their wishes, and she supported the patient by providing comfort and positive touch at the end of life.
