she balances the assertive confidence in her knowledge with impartial judgment that results in the most effective balance of communication
Stephanie Holdman has demonstrated excellence in patient care above and beyond expectations numerous times over this past year. A few examples include:
Stephanie took notice when a patient needed an attending provider to collaborate with the surgical team to address a concern that would dictate the patient's discharge plan. She advocated for the patient by connecting the attending and surgical providers to the issue within an Epic chat. In doing so she may have saved the patient several days worth of hospital stay.
Another patient had not had a certain lab drawn or a repeated chest x-ray in a few days and Stephanie brought this up to a doctor in our Huddle and was addressed. This assisted with a diagnosis and additional care prior to a discharge likely preventing a readmission.
Stephanie has been able to handle a full patient assignment while teaching a new orientee. While I believe this is something that our nurses should all be expected to do, Stephanie is able to impart the "why" mentality and the problem-solving techniques that engage a nurse to be "proactive" rather than "reactive".
While Stephanie is certainly the epitome of critical thinking and patient advocacy, she balances the assertive confidence in her knowledge with impartial judgment that results in the most effective balance of communication to the entire interdisciplinary team and the unit.
Stephanie Holdman is a nurse that all others in the field of nursing should strive to emulate as her actions have reduced length of stay, improved patient experience, furthered new nurses' growth, and improved many people's lives.
Thank you, Stephanie, for your willingness to go above and beyond your call of duty.
