Recently, my son had the occasion to take his youngest son (my grandson) to the Emergency Department at Dayton Children's Hospital. G had fallen and injured his hand. Mom stayed home with their two older children and dad had the responsibility to get G checked and treated. This was their first experience in the ER and dad was not looking forward to it. The ER was very busy and looked quite intimidating as they entered the triage area. G is a little three year old with special needs. Being on the autistic spectrum makes for challenges when his routine is upset. Stephanie Maniaci was the first person they encountered. She made such a good first impression with her calm, kind reassurance. She put dad and G at ease. She was efficient with her communication, knowledge, and attention to detail. My son said he felt all would be well if the rest of the staff was anything like Stephanie. She did such a good "check-in", he even remembered her name. It is true that the "little things" make a difference. The care by all the ER staff exceeded his expectations. The nurses, ER doctor, medical imaging and especially ortho tech who applied a splint did their magic and G was cared for, treated and sent home without a hitch. An orthopedic follow-up involved a cast. That too was a very positive encounter. Stephanie is a compassionate ambassador for your facility who gives outstanding care and has a heart for nursing. She is a treasure and a blessing to the children and parents she encounters in your very busy ER. Thank you, Stephanie!
