I am a Wound Care patient at Decatur Morgan Hospital, Parkway Campus. I had an injury to my left calf,  which resulted blistering. Once the blister and fluid were gone, I had a significant open wound. I was fitted with a wound care vac for 5 weeks, and the outcome was successful.   

The next step was to nurture the good tissue in preparation for new skin growth. 

I had significant swelling in both legs, and compression wraps were applied.  The compression wraps left me unable to get my foot in any of my shoes, which was upsetting. 

Nurse Stephanie Zibas was very tuned into my distress. Her shift was over when I was leaving, and she said to me, “Let’s go to Walmart and buy you some bigger shoes.”  I was hesitant at first, but she was so insistent and kind that I agreed to go.

She went into Walmart and found an electric cart for me, and brought it to the car. We headed to the shoe section.

We found some tennis shoes that fit, they were a size bigger than mine.  I bought them, and I have worn them since.

Nurse Stephanie turned an upsetting situation into a positive one. She was so aware of my distress that she went out of her way to make things right again.

I feel that she is not just a dedicated and highly skilled nurse but one who truly cares about her patients beyond their medical situations. 

Her intuitive, caring, and genuine kindness epitomizes what the title nurse was meant to reflect. She is truly a credit to her profession.
