The nursing administrative team in both units dedicated all their efforts to build the best level of teamwork.
The COVID-19 Pandemic brought unprecedented challenges. The world's socio-economical structure and healthcare systems were deeply affected by it and those, once known to be the strongest, stood helpless towards the surge of patients and staff burnout. Despite all of the uncertainties in COVID-19 medical management, the need for a new approach towards direct patient care was a must. New COVID dedicated wards, a team nursing approach, and several other interventions were made to face these challenges and provide our patients with the care they deserve.

March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, IMC realized the need to have a new approach and to restructure some of the inpatient units to provide the best care to our beloved patients. Following this new setup, Inpatient oncology and the surgical units have been merged to form one unit with mixed admissions. Merging the oncology and surgical units together brought a few challenges related to patient allocation, nurse: patient ratio, and mostly teamwork between the surgical and the oncology nurses. These challenges were faced under the umbrella of "IMC nurses" where, regardless of which unit they report to, their dedication was to provide excellent patient care. The nursing administrative team in both units dedicated all their efforts to build the best level of teamwork. Individual and team meetings were conducted to highlight all the challenges both teams were facing. A core team including the Nursing Supervisor, HNs, charge nurses, and front-liners were created to assure: - Review the acuity of patients every shift - Proper allocation among all staff - Regular leadership rounds The result was truly remarkable, nurses from both teams started to work in total harmony, the environment carried the spirit of one team caring for all patients regardless of their specialties. This change of practice led to a team recognition from our patients appreciating the outstanding performance the Oncology and the Surgical teams are practicing.
