I was helping care for an 89-year-old patient with dementia who was in for urinary obstruction. This patient was very frustrated and unsure why she was in the hospital. I was the anesthesia doctor helping take care of her. Susan treated the patient with such care and kindness. She does this with all her patients. We got in the room when I realized the IV was not working. The patient was not pleased with me having to place a tourniquet and an IV in the room. The nurse spoke with the woman with such kindness and kept her calm. Honestly, Susan probably kept her from striking me by speaking with her calmly and kindly. The IV was placed and we were able to complete the procedure. In addition, this nurse went above and beyond all night (it was an extremely busy night). She helped with many patient issues and I believe Susan went above and beyond helping me contact Noble hospital to assist with scheduling an emergency case for the next day. I had tried without success, but she made it happen!
