Suzanne formed a relationship with our patient that was so mutually beneficial to them. The patient was newly paralyzed and experiencing all the grief, anxiety, and concerns that go along with such a huge change. Suzanne stayed and spoke to this patient daily. She came to know him as a person. She came in on her days off to see him; reassuring him the whole time that this new disability was NOT related to his worth, it did/does NOT define him as a person, that he is worthy, strong and can have a good life! One day the patient frustrated his girlfriend by waking her up early - the two had been dating only a short time, but she had been by his side the entire time. Suzanne bought flowers for the patient to give to his girlfriend to apologize!
Suzanne was gone the day this patient discharged from the hospital - but he had been here long enough that 4S bought him a t-shirt and all signed it. Her co-workers knew the two had a close relationship and did not want to give it to him without a message from Suzanne. I had the honor of hearing Suzanne give her message to him and writing it for her. She thanked him for reminding her why she became a nurse. It brought tears to my eyes.

I'm a 26-year-old male athlete who suffered significant trauma in a car accident 2 weeks ago. Coming to the hospital and health care world, I was terrified and extremely skeptical and struggled to trust any nurses, until I had Suzanne. Suzanne has 100% changed my life. I struggle to articulate just how much she has helped me through this. Professionally, she was always on top of anything and everything I needed, and my girlfriend's needs too. She took the time to explain each of the medications she was giving me in detail, and always answered any question or frustration I had. On top of that, she provided an incredible sense of safety and security that allowed me to trust a healthcare provider for the first time in my life. Suzanne has gone above and beyond in terms of her job requirements, and I am so incredibly thankful for that, and truly wouldn't have gotten through this without her.
