I had a patient that was being evaluated after a motor vehicle collision that occurred 2 weeks prior. The patient was sent to jail after the accident and was not properly evaluated until I was able to see him. He had rib fractures and was in a lot of pain. Unfortunately, he is an addict and has no positive influences in his life to help him.
Tamara took the time on a busy day to discuss with him her personal family experience with addiction. She truly empathized with him and wanted to make an impact during his ED visit. She provided him multiple resources and even told him she was going to follow up with his progress. She displayed compassion and empathy; willing to take the time to make a difference in this person's life. An incredible act of kindness and going beyond the call of nursing!
