Building a strong team through Camaraderie has proven to improve patient outcomes and our quality indicators on the telemetry unit.
The Telemetry Team embodies a spirit of strength and resilience. Our metrics alone speak volumes and have highlighted that hard work and dedication pay off. Through a professional and clinical development project implemented by the telemetry leaders, the unit’s certification rate increased by 30% putting the entire unit at 50% as compared to 2019 ‘s 20%. It all started with a simple conversation with one of the informal leaders of the unit about the importance of being certified and the incentives that come with it.
Through inspiration and motivation, 11 of our nurses signed up for the certification exam and all passed on the first try. The leaders of telemetry celebrated and recognized their (Certification) achievements by displaying a congratulatory banner on the unit. This banner also served as a subliminal motivator to inspire others throughout the hospital.
As of today, our certification rate is at 90% including the Managers on the unit. Our Employee Engagement score in 2019 was a tier 2. As new leaders, it was a hard pill to swallow. However we were not discouraged by a tier 2, Instead we utilized it as a teachable tool to learn from each other and use the feedback to make changes. Many of the Employees did not feel valued, or recognized enough. We initiated the peer to peer meaningful recognition to positively motivate the staff and boost morale.
One of our leaders initiated the Women in Pearls endeavor to inspire and celebrate women’s history month. The leaders of telemetry celebrate fall free days. Building a strong team through Camaraderie has proven to improve patient outcomes and our quality indicators on the telemetry unit.
In 2019 we had 17 falls, we initiated “call don’t fall” protocol, displaying stickers on the wall to remind the patients to call for help. We have a 'No pass zone', meaning everyone is responsible to answer the call bell. We utilized the enhance observation method as an additional tool to decrease falls. In 2020 we ended the year with 7 falls; a significant drop from the previous year. In 2019 we had 2 pressure injuries and in 2020, 0 pressure injury. 2019 we had 2 Clasbi in 2020 0 Clasbi. In 2019 we had 2 C-diff, in 2020 0 C-diff. Our recommended hospital percentage in 2019 was 63% as of today we are at 74.2.
The telemetry unit in 2020 also known as the Covid unit persevered and crushed Covid together. We exemplified what truly together and diversity represent. In less than 2 years we managed to turn this unit around for the greater good. During these unprecedented times - together we stand strong, we are resilient, we are a united front, We are the Telemetry Unit.
