I nominate Teneshia Sinclair-Moore, RNIII for the DAISY Award. Teneshia shows a caring attitude and is a strong patient advocate consistently. One example of this was the care and time she took with a recent patient who had come for a bronchoscopy procedure. She provided continuous care for the patient from the pre-op phase, all the way through discharge. During this time, the patient was newly diagnosed with lung cancer. Teneshia stayed with the patient and family while the physician was delivering this unfortunate news, holding hands, crying with them, and comforting them.
On another occasion, a patient arrived for a GI procedure and did not have a ride home. The unit’s policy is that all patients have a responsible adult drive them home following a procedure requiring sedation. This particular patient lived in a homeless shelter that was unwilling to provide transportation; she had to take public transportation. Her procedure had to be cancelled that day but Teneshia talked with the patient and arranged for her procedure to be scheduled on a day that she was working and last case of the day. The patient arrived by bus the morning of her procedure. Teneshia got her ready for her procedure and following her recovery Teneshia clocked out of work and drove the patient to the shelter. Teneshia made sure the patient was comfortable and that the patient was not alone before leaving. This is just one of the many ways that Teneshia goes above and beyond what is expected of her.
Teneshia loves her job and it shows on a daily basis. Teneshia has received numerous WOW cards and DAISY nominations, 4 Values in Actions Awards, two of which came from outside her department and a KEIP award. In one nomination a patient stated “she treats the patients as if you were a part of her own family” and another actually stated “thank you for letting us have the privilege of being served by Teneshia”. Another nomination from a patient read “Teneshia was one of the sweetest, most compassionate nurses that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting” and “she explained the procedures and made me feel very confident that my father was in the best of hands. She was very professional and again very caring”.
Teneshia not only portrays a constant positive “can do” attitude but has a genuine thirst for knowledge and desire to excel all the while displaying exemplary care for patients and colleagues.
