I have been battling a chemical dependency on alcohol and admitted myself to the hospital. I was going through horrific withdrawals and was feeling shame and guilt because I had thirty days sober since my last relapse. My nurse recognized me but did not make me feel like a scumbag for being back in the hospital. For the last three days, I have had seizures, have not been able to keep down food, and have had violent whole-body shakes. My nurse had empathy for me and knew that Alcoholism is a disease without a cure. Even though it was 3 am, my nurse was professional and informative. Though I was going through a rough time, they eased my mind by making me know that they would do anything to ease my suffering. I was likely to discharge myself out of shame, but because of my nurse, I felt I was in the best hands in the department at the time. Their attitude was top-notch, and they excelled at their job effortlessly. Thank you so much for helping me
