On Sunday, April 13th a special needs patient came to the ED and it was his birthday. Todd McKee was his primary RN and started talking to the other staff about doing something small for this patient since it was his birthday and he had to spend it in the hospital. So this is what happened:
The patient loved Rock Hill High football so Mandi Whitesides found some RHHS BearCat print cutouts.
Relay for Life came around selling cupcakes so Dan Miller bought some for the celebration.
Amy Freeman and others made a super cool red poster with the BearCat cutouts and Happy Birthday.
Todd was able to get balloons from the gift shop.
Danny Lewis gave him a stuffed monkey from her bag of toys she keeps for pediatric patients.
The crew working that day went into the room and sang for him.
Dr. Diorio manned the desk and answered the phone!
This was so cool to see and the staff did this on their own! It made an impact in this man's life and his family's. I am sure to some of you the first thought is how do you have the time to do this when we are so busy - I was so amazed at how each person jumped in and did a little piece and it was done so quickly. This was awesome. This team is awesome. This is what we do and truly how we have the ability to impact patient's lives.
