Toia Whitaker, RN, MSN, WCC, ACHRN
Toia has worn many hats this year covering our APN in wound care who is out on maternity leave. Toia has obtained her Masters in Diabetic Education, and is currently covering for a nurse who has retired. Providing in-patient diabetic education along with presenting monthly diabetic education to the in-patient RNs. Toia also works in Hyperbaric Oxygen (her home base), and she is currently working on our next UHMS Accreditation to take place in March 2023.
As if this is not enough she is studying for her certification in Diabetic Education. Toia has taken the initiative to streamline the diabetic information that is provided to our in-patients prior to discharge by putting all pertinent information on an easy to read pamphlet. She has researched where patients can get affordable medications, insulin, blood glucose monitors, and supplies. Toia actively participates in monthly diabetic meetings with our sister facilities along with our own monthly staff meetings, nursing grand rounds, quarterly wound healing & hyperbaric oxygen QM meetings, and OMC safety meetings.
Toia provides a safe, kind, and caring atmosphere to all the patients she treats. She is willing to research, make phone calls and follow up on whatever the patient may require. Toia is an excellent resource person, who is always looking for answers by thinking outside the box. She is truly an Extraordinary Nurse, who deserves to be recognized for all the hard work she does.
