Tonya continuously encouraged me to get involved in every case that walked in to soak up the knowledge and understanding of what we do.
As a new nurse, I already had so much anxiety and expectations about what I imagined as being a great nurse. I was nervous and hopeful that I would meet other nurses who understood these feelings and would understand the million questions I would have. I was precepted under Tonya. She not only taught me all that I needed to know on the unit, answered all of my questions, and continuously encouraged me to get involved in every case that walked in to soak up the knowledge and understanding of what we do, but she also befriended me. She made getting up for work exciting. She never tried to intimidate me but challenged me. She made the anxiety in my new profession a bit more bearable. She continuously supported me with work and personally. I will never forget all of the great nights we had working together, the nights she pushed me out of my comfort zone, but also the nights when she had my back. We don't say thank you enough to people like this, but I am so very thankful for my preceptor, my co-worker, my friend. I will never forget you and all that you have taught me. I am a better person and friend because of you.
