Valerie LaRoy always takes excellent and compassionate care of her patients. She has great critical thinking skills, and intervenes to keep her patients safe. Val demonstrates the aspects of the DAISY Nurse. She always takes time for communication to put families and patients at ease.

The wife of a very sick patient was upset about her husband's illness and the many questions she had. Val walked in the room as the wife was talking with the manager, and started from the top, taking time to address each question or concern. this is the norm for her. On another occasion we had a patient who was developmentally delayed, and Val had developed such a rapport with him, that she was one of the caregivers he preferred, and he would frequently ask for her.

Val goes above and beyond for all patients, whether or not they are hers. Recently a call had been accidentally transferred to Val's Alcatel phone. The caller had stated suicidal ideations. Instead of passing the buck and transferring the caller to the psychiatry department, Val stayed on the phone with the caller for over an hour, ensuring her safety. She coordinated with 2 other nurses on the unit to get the appropriate resources, including emergency medical services, to the patient. Val stayed on the phone with the patient the entire time, offering her support. This was on a day when the unit was short staffed, and very busy.

Val is an exceptional nurse who always displays compassion, and coordinates with other caregivers to ensure that her patients, and all patients, receive the very best outcomes.
