We took care of a young military woman who had recently returned from active duty. She was quite sick and was having multiple tests done trying to figure out what was causing her illness. The patient's family lived in California and she just happened to be hospitalized on her birthday. Val went above and beyond to help her feel special on her birthday by getting her a small token from the gift shop, secured a birthday card then she got the entire staff to sign, and also made sure she received cake with her dinner.
Val is a great nurse and she goes above and beyond to get to know not only her patients and their family on a more personal level, but also her co-workers. I can always tell when I get report that she truly "Takes 5" with every patient.
