Velisa gave compassionate care that helped develop awareness and understanding of my husband's distress combined with the desire to ease it.
Velisa Charles walked into my husband's room with a big smile on her face. The first time I set my eyes on Velisa, I could tell from her looks that she is a very compassionate and caring individual. I was really impressed with her personality. She is a very patient and concerned individual, who spent some time asking questions in order to familiarize herself with his medical condition. She was very empathetic to his pain and suffering which was vital to my husband's well-being. By demonstrating compassion, she was able to provide him with the support and confidence he needed to fight a devastating disease. She has competent care that includes the required skills and knowledge to treat patients. I could tell my late husband was very comfortable and was glad to interact with her.
Velisa was able to bond with him by following up with his health concerns and complaints while offering emotional support that helped to strengthen him with the will to survive. She showed great respect for him, too. She took time to explain tests and procedures and answered his questions which made him feel very important. She knew my husband was dying, she was still present, offered companionship, and had the ability to accept the fact that death is inevitable. I sincerely believe that she treats her patients equally which is very important in caring for those hospitalized.
She gave compassionate care that helped develop awareness and understanding of my husband's distress combined with the desire to ease it. She figured out bedside manners that created calm, comfort, and confidence in him without actually ever having to say anything. She also listened to him and took his input into account which helped to guide his treatment path. She was able to determine his verbal cues, his facial expressions via eye contact, and general ability to read his body language. Most important, she is a great patient advocate.
Most nights it was difficult for me to fall asleep but the nights she was around were most restful because I had so much confidence in her. She would always say, "Mrs. O, go get some rest and I will take care of him." I never doubted those words and I will always remember her care and loving-kindness.
