Verena Coutts, RN

She went above and beyond for a patient who was homeless. This patient needed surgery but was unwilling to wait for the emergent surgery because his dog was left alone in his trailer with no one to care for the dog. Verena made sure the necessary avenues were called to provide assistance for the animal. I believe she called social services and a volunteer that fosters patient’s dogs. She spent ample time talking to the patient, easing his anxiety and convincing him to stay and get the surgery. These may be expected from all hospital personnel, but Verena did it with such compassion and empathy, unlike anything I have seen before. A true angel on earth and very deserving of this DAISY Award.
