Ms. Vicki laughed and cried with my friend as she talked her through one of the scariest moments of my friend's life.
Following a weeklong stay in the hospital after receiving a cancer diagnosis, Ms. Vicki was assigned to my friend to administer her first round of chemotherapy. She was so kind, compassionate, and comforting. Receiving a diagnosis like this can be so scary and devastating, Ms. Vicki went out of her way to help my friend walk through this procedure with such care. The therapy was only supposed to take four hours, but it took twice as long as expected. Ms. Vicki never left her side and continued to explain everything in detail to my friend and her daughter. Ms. Vicki prepared me for what to expect and how best to protect my friend and her loved ones when she goes home after chemotherapy treatment. Ms. Vicki laughed and cried with my friend as she talked her through one of the scariest moments of my friend's life. Ms. Vicki deserves this award and so much more because I know she does this daily with her patients and we are not the only ones she's cared for in this way. Despite having to work the next morning, Ms. Vicki stayed later than normal because the medication was moving slowly. Working on her feet the whole time, the job is hard on the mind, body, and soul, but Ms. Vicki was doing it with such grace. I want to recognize her for the sacrifice. All the nurses have been fantastic, but Ms. Vicki shined so brightly during my friend's stay.
