There are no words to express the love and devotion that Vicky has for people. She has been an inspiration to all whom she encounters. Vicky has been a nurse for 33 years and been at the Mental Health Center for 19 years. In her role at the Mental Health Center Vicky deals with the most difficult, complex patients in her position administering Long-Acting Injectable medications. She treats even the most hostile, demanding patients with compassion, never losing her composure in the face of anger. She recognizes that most of this behavior is the result of their illness - not the person.
Vicky makes sure patients are aware of their medications and is always willing to take time and answer questions. Several patients have said they feel comfortable talking to Vicky and telling her their problems because they know she cares.
Recently, a client had been discharged from the Mental Health Unit and was concerned about returning home. Vicky sat down with the client, his mother, and his outreach worker. Vicky spent an hour explaining the client's new medications and making sure they were comfortable returning home. Vicky then had a separate conversation with the client's mother to help her understand how BHGMHC would continue to help her son. Vicky approached this situation with patience and genuine caring.
Vicky has been instrumental in being not only a role model for others in our organization but looked to for her knowledge, skills, and abilities in various areas of nursing. She mentors new staff and is viewed as a valuable resource to all.
