We have a patient in the PICU who has been on ECMO for 2 months, since he was 4 days old. Last week was a difficult week, there were issues with the ECMO flow. They had planned to do a procedure on Friday and Wendy advocated for his mom to hold him prior to the procedure. There was some uncertainty and a lot of concerns, but Wendy kept advocating and ultimately the mom was able to hold him. I cared for the same patient the next day and the mom's eyes lit up when she told me about holding him and showed me the pictures. She was so thankful.
Wendy consistently advocates for her patients and their families. She treats them with compassion and empathy. I believe she looks at every patient as if they were her own child.
