Thank you for the opportunity to tell you about my experience with Dr. K and his staff. I have written him to express my thanks and am glad to tell you that he and his team should be set as the example of who and what the medical profession should be. I went in for a colonoscopy having been told that I had a cologuard test positive for cancer. I was apprehensive, to say the least. I should also tell you that I am a divorced 66-year-old who lives alone, has one child out of state, no family here, no friends who could go with me, must use a walker, and have no transportation so I use a medical transportation service, i.e, I am pretty much alone.

When I arrived via the service, I was greeted at the front desk warmly and put in a wheelchair, so I didn't have to walk so far with the walker. At the initial check-in, the lady behind the desk came to me to fill out the paperwork. Then I went to surgical check-in where I met B who was so kind and took care of my questions including those about the medical POA I brought with me. She had it scanned in and brought it to me in the exam room. I then met my nurse S who was the absolute best! He answered all my questions, and explained the procedure, all the while listening and laughing with me as he did his job of getting me ready for Dr. S and Dr. K. I relaxed knowing I would see him again after the procedure.

At that time, I also met Whitney who was assisting him. Dr. S; she came in and explained the anesthesia process and answered my questions about propofol. Dr. K came in and explained the colonoscopy procedure and answered my questions there. I was taken to the surgical room where I met three other nurses who were so kind, gentle, and caring. They also told me what to expect. After the procedure was over they took me back to the recovery room where S and Whitney took care of me again. Dr. K came in and explained what he found and then the follow-up process and estimated time to get the results.

At this point, I contacted the transportation service to take me home and was told after 30 minutes of waiting, being put on hold, that I had no reservation for my return trip home, and they couldn't pick me up. S and Whitney came back to the room several times to check on me. At this point, I attempted to call a Lyft but was not successful because my phone would not allow me to access WiFi. I called my son to ask him what I should do and Whitney came into the room and told me she had received permission from her supervising nurse to take me home. I cried! Can you imagine how it felt to be so tired and vulnerable after the prep and procedure, totally alone, disabled, and then stranded, to have someone who was a perfect stranger before that day tell you they would take you home?

So, Whitney accompanied by another nurse wheeled me to the entrance, brought the car around, drove me home and they both walked me to the door to make sure I was safely inside. I live in a senior apartment complex and several neighbors were so impressed the nurses from KMC brought me home. What more can I say? I was alone and tired and stranded, and all they cared about was ME. Please reward them and hold the whole team up to their colleagues and peers as an example of what is the best of the medical profession.

Finally, I heard from Dr. K today. I do not have cancer! I will tell everyone I know or come in contact with about my story and the people who work at KMC. God bless you all as you do your jobs under extremely tough circumstances.
