Zenya is the perfect nominee for this award. She has a burning passion for patient satisfaction and her energy can make anyone smile and forget that they are even in a hospital. She was my nurse a few years back when I was on Ortho for a motorcycle accident and had some pretty extensive injuries. I couldn’t walk, barely could move, and the mental battle was just as bad as the physical one. My most fond memory was when I was going through a mental episode and I needed a friend. Not a nurse, but just someone to talk to and help me remember that I was still alive and to be grateful. She noticed my struggle and sat down and talked to me. She gave me her full attention and talked about video games. She also saw my Rubik’s cube on my table, grabbed it, and asked me if I wanted to see something cool. She solved my Rubik’s cube in what seemed like seconds. She didn’t have to talk to me. She didn’t have to comfort me. But she chose to do so because that’s who Zenya is as a person. This has stuck with me until this day, and seeing her at work and reuniting with her has been an experience I could relive over and over again. My most recent stay wasn’t as intense, but she saw that I still had that same mental struggle of being in a hospital. She constantly checked in on me and always made sure I was ok. Zenya deserves this award for her personality alone, but her compassion speaks volumes. Thank you for everything you do Zenya, and I’m so grateful for everything you have done for me!
