Jennifer has been on 4 DSU for over 25 years and is an exceptional nurse. Jennifer is the nurse liaison on 4 DSU in which she assists with patient concerns, teaching patients about treatment plans and assisting them after discharge care with follow up appointments or any other service they need. Jennifer is very gentle and caring and she can always seem to calm patients who are anxious and restless. For example, we had a 57-year-old male who was alert and oriented to person, place, and situation who was admitted with bilateral below the knee amputation infection requiring bilateral above the knee amputation. This patient was receiving a lot of pain medication, antibiotics, psychology physicians were following the patient for depression and he was refusing the surgery. His significant other was very emotional because the verbal attacks were not only with the staff on 4 DSU but with her as well. Jennifer took the time to really talk to him and his significant other regarding the fears. She felt if the patient and his significant other met a patient who had an amputation and lives a full life, his mind might be changed. Jennifer called several agencies to see if they have a patient who had above the knee amputation and maybe they can speak to this patient. This patient was given hope for a full life and we think our patient made a new friend. The patient agreed to amputation which will likely save his life. Jennifer was amazing with this patient, she exemplifies the true art and science of nursing.
Jennifer is a team player who can always be counted on to put in more than her share of work. She has a wonderful rapport with the doctors, new employees, student nurses, patients, and families. Jennifer is often complimented on her calm, eager to teach and excellent service she gives our patients/families. Jennifer can always be there to help her colleague in need of help and all the staff enjoys working with her.
