Karin provided compassionate care to a patient who was very nervous about surgery. He was afraid of needles and nervous about having an IV started and anxious about being in the hospital in general. Karin was his admitting nurse and she was able to comfort him and start an IV on the first attempt. She spent time talking to the patient and his wife, explaining every procedure and calming their nerves. When the patient was anxious about receiving Lovenox injections, Karin took time to explain the importance of the medication and go over steps of administering the medication prior to giving the injection.
Karin's peers describe her as a valuable member of the team who treats each patient as if they were a member of her own family. She is always willing to work extra and help those who work alongside her. She is quick to speak up when she has a question or concern, especially when it is related to her patients.
Because of Karin's compassionate and caring efforts, her patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
