Victor Miramontes is a registered nurse (RN) who practices in the Critical Care Unit. Victor is being honored with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond for the patients and families he cares for. Victor is described as being a wonderful, gentle, caring nurse.

In one particular situation, Victor spent every minute he could with the patient to ensure that things went as well as could be expected. The patient's wife stated that "Victor stood out" and commended him for his selflessness, witnessing him "standing and eating a bite then coming in the room to check on both my husband and me to go back and finish the supper that had surely gotten cold." The patient's wife further stated that "with nurses like Victor you should be proud of your nursing staff". She was further impressed by Victor during the night of her husband's passing. She stated that Victor was not their nurse, but "made it very clear that we were important to him and he stood with me and comforted me". The patient's wife stated "I will never be able to thank him enough" and that she "will be forever grateful for him".

Victor is described by his peers as being knowledgeable - loving to learn new skills. He does a great job in teaching those skills and procedures at the bedside to his peers. Victor is known for providing top-notch patient care with a great attitude. His patients and families appreciate and enjoy the care Victor provides. Victor's managers state that he is a rising star and his eagerness to learn coupled with his compassion for his patients makes him an excellent nurse. They feel very lucky to have him as a part of the CCU family.

Because of Victor's compassionate and caring efforts, his patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
