Jen consistently demonstrates compassion for her patients and their families. We are currently caring for a patient whose family has multiple challenges which makes it difficult for them to attend appointments. This patient is young and has some complex diagnoses which are challenging for the patient's family to understand.
Jen has effectively established a therapeutic relationship with this patient and his family and will take as much time as the patient's family needs to make sure that they understand his diagnosis and plan.
Recently, the patient's mom stated that she felt that her son no longer needed to be seen by our team. It was not in the best interest of the patient to discontinue care with the GI team. Jen spent a great deal of time speaking with mom and was able to help her understand her child's diagnoses, the plan of care, and the importance of continued follow up with GI.
While talking about the plan of care, Jen learned that the patient was refusing a medication that he needed to treat one of his GI conditions. Mom shared that her child did not like the flavor of the medication and therefore would not take it. Jen worked with mom to obtain a new prescription and have the mediation flavored at her pharmacy. Jen also facilitated the scheduling of a follow-up appointment for the patient. Her compassion and advocacy for her patients ensure that no child slips through the cracks.
