... Our son was in the NICU unit from 7/31 -8/9. All those days have run together, so I couldn't tell you exactly the first time we saw her, but I can tell you that our of all the wonderful nurses we had those long, long day and nights, Debbie is the one who made us feel the most secure while taking care of our little one.
There was so much information to take in during that time, but she always managed to give us the clearest and most concise detail regarding his condition, his care, and helped us feel more comfortable with the decisions we were making regarding his care, due to her knowledge and the level of detail she provided.
She was compassionate, comforting, and sensitive to our needs as well as to our baby. I always felt that she was genuine and it felt more like having my own mother there when she was with us for the day. She would encourage us to come see him whenever possible, but also to take care of ourselves, whether it was going to get a meal or just sitting still for 5 minutes and putting up our feet.
My husband and I felt better equipped to care for our son after his stay in the hospital due to her devotion to her job, to our son, and to us. I can honestly say that I would not have felt as comfortable walking out of the nursery doors had we not have come in contact with Debbie Marcum. She was our Angel during this traumatic time in our lives.
