After this patient was dismissed, his family called our unit to praise his nurse. The daughter-in-law was very appreciative and shared that “Chasity was so kind and caring. She spent time with us and explained everything in a way we could understand. I would not hesitate to let her take care of me or anyone we know. She truly exemplifies what compassion in nursing means.”

Chasity has been our mother’s nurse for several days. She took time to listen to our mother’s needs and concerns. Chasity was compassionate, kind and patient when mom struggled to string phrases together. She made us feel like she was always available and answered her phone promptly when we called. Being the patient’s advocate is an attribute of an exceptional nurse. Chasity, time and time again, demonstrated this. She always answered our questions and called doctors to clarify orders when necessary.

Having a family member ill is very difficult and emotional. Having Chasity as our nurse made us feel like we were not alone but instead collaboratively supporting mom as she healed. Thank you, Chasity!

I am writing this letter of recognition for Chasity Lemons RN, not because she is a good nurse, but more specifically a great nurse, going far beyond her required care of a patient.

Chasity’s care and dedication began when my mom had surgery for hydrocephalus. At age 84, the initial surgery was not successful. The shunt was not placed correctly and her health deteriorated throughout the week. As the only daughter and residing in Texas, I was reliant on the nursing staff for good care and assessment of my mom throughout that week of recovery. Chasity never rushed when I called; taking time to explain mom’s care and medication issues. She always called me back when messages were left.

The second surgery was performed on my mom to reposition the shunt and again we were blessed with Chasity for her care. I felt Chasity stayed on top of mom’s care, left messages for doctors that I requested and took the time every night to introduce the night shift to alleviate any fears mom may have had. Chasity helped look up medication side effects when mom’s confusion continued and always took the time to assure mom that she was doing just fine. She was helpful with mom’s diet, encouraging her when rehab started, and was always there with a smile and warm heart.

With mom’s release from Miami Valley Hospital, her rehab was to continue at a nursing home, Chasity again pulled out all the stoops. The doctor forgot to sign off on the exit paperwork, which could result in another day spent in the hospital and her bed being released at the nursing home. Chasity quickly got the help of the floor doctor to check out mom for same day release, thereby saving her bed at the nursing home. She also set up E.M.T. transport from the hospital to the nursing home. Without Chasity’s quick thinking and help Mom would have spent another day or two in the hospital, putting her further behind in the rehabilitation process.

Chasity Lemons is a great nurse, a valued asset to your hospital and the main reason I would return to Miami Valley Hospital for future care of my mom.

Thank you, Chasity!
