Maggie is kind, compassionate, and the true heart of our orthopedic Trauma Program. Every time we meet a family they sing Maggie's praises for being so fantastic and calming. She is patient, and always takes the time to make sure families fully understand what is going in with their child. She keeps the team organized, and always has our patients' best interest in mind. At times we call her the "child whisperer" as she has been able to woo even the most difficult kids, as well as the most challenging parents.

One of our patient's was able to save his leg due solely to Maggie's dedication and persistence with a very challenging social situation. If it were not for her, that child would not be running and playing basketball with his own two legs. I could go on and on in detail about the honorable, funny, and loving person she is. Our team would not be what it is without her. I nominate Maggie not just as an extraordinary nurse, but one of a kind and irreplaceable. Whether it's her direct interaction with patients and families, or her organization and ideas to make the orthopedic trauma team better, she is an absolute necessity to the success of our program.

...

Maggie is one of the finest nurses I have ever had the privilege of working with. She is caring, compassionate and exemplifies all of the traits of a DAISY award recipient. Maggie is a critical part of the success and growth of the Orthopedic Trauma Program at CHCO. She spends countless hours on the phone, in clinic and on the floor helping children and their families cope with severe musculoskeletal injuries and is a key component to our multidisciplinary MSK infection clinical care pathway. I consider her the glue that holds the orthopedic trauma program and MSK infection team together.

She has coordinated complex wound care, radiographic, antibiotic and psychiatric follow up for kids in remote locations with their PCP's and social workers which allowed us to save a young childs limb from amputation (the child and family first came to us wanting to amputate his leg and now he is fully healed and living a normal life thanks much in part to Maggie's care coordination).

She has worked with pre operative nursing to improve the patient experience during urgent room surgery and is currently working with the ED, perioperative services as well as others to continue to improve this experience. Maggie has developed trauma and infection specific handouts which are available to families and are now available on our website. She began coordinating multidisciplinary rounds on all MSK infection patients which facilitates Ortho, Pediatrics and Infectious Disease teams to round together which improves multidisciplinary team care coordination and communication with families.

I could go on and on about Maggie and have countless examples of why she deserves this award. If you need more reasons why she deserves this award just come to our clinic and see how parents and kids are excited to see me but absolutely light up when she walks into the room. They recognize she is the glue that holds their child's care together and makes the CHCO experience special. I whole-heartedly and without reservation recommend Maggie for the DAISY Award. There is no one more deserving.
