In November of 2018, our 14-year-old daughter began treatment for AML at Children's in Minneapolis. As you can imagine her first hospitalization was overwhelming. Erin was there for B and the family every step of the way and has been ever since that first round. During all 4 of B's prolonged hospitalizations, Erin has provided excellent daily care. She is knowledgeable, attentive, kind, and on top of all medications and tests. She has taken time to get to know B and our family. She uses this knowledge to make all of B's experiences as positive as they can be given the circumstances. She knows that B likes to sleep in and honors that each morning. She knows that B likes to have few interruptions when she is doing school work and honors that. Whenever it is necessary for B to be alone, Erin makes sure to check in with her more often than normal and spends a bit more time in her room. These seemingly little things all add up for a teenager who is spending months of her life in the hospital. However, what truly sets Erin apart is the manner in which she advocates for her patients and their families. She has repeatedly taken the initiative on reaching out to doctors to make medication changes that could make B more comfortable. Each time she has been admitted, Erin has done her best to get B "her" room to make her feel more comfortable during her stay. She brought to our attention and then worked with other departments to secure meal coupons for her to have cafeteria meals, gained access to the Ronald McDonald House for our family and overall made certain that B and the family would have the best possible care both medically and emotionally. Erin is an amazing nurse who has dedicated herself to her patients. She has truly made a difference in this experience for my daughter and our family. I could not imagine going through this without her.
