I have worked with Kayla directly when she was the nurse taking care of a donor patient and family, and I have worked with other nurses who are very caring for the organ donor patient while Kayla was charge nurse. As a direct patient care RN, Kayla showed extraordinary compassion and patience to the family after organ donation. She went out of her way to ensure they understood the process and every step of the way making sure they were cared for. She was tender with their loved one and made changes to the room to make sure the family was more comfortable. She's supported them in their grief and laugh with them to ease their pain. As charge, she was a tremendous advocate for her peers and supporting them through the often-complicated process of organ donation. Notably, she advocates for adherence to hospital policy and helps her team when she can. She does all this without breaking a sweat and maintaining a friendly smile.
