My 4-month-old son was an inpatient on 4 East after airway surgery and Shellby Albanese-Lloyd was his nurse. She was so attentive to his and my needs, even supporting me with breastfeeding issues I was having. However, what made me nominate her for the DAISY Award was how she went above and beyond with advocating for my son after a minor setback led to some unacceptable and unreasonable requests by his care team. The requests being made would have caused excess pain and discomfort to my son when there was no clear evidence the interventions were needed. It took a lot of Shellby's time that afternoon, but she persisted on our behalf and got the team to reconsider as she saved my son from unnecessary pain and possibly further complications. She is a true example of a nurse deserving of this recognition.
