Kaelyn is an excellent RN, coworker, and advocate for her patients. Kaelyn has formed a special bond with a long-term patient of ours. I love to see how invested she is in his outcome. She asks to be his primary RN while he remains in the hospital. She pushes him to keep making strides towards recovery in a positive and healing way. She is an advocate for his health mentally and physically. I know his wife also appreciates all her hard work and dedication. She has said before how positive RN's like Kaelyn really help him towards recovery.
Kaelyn also arranged farewell cards for the patient when his discharge was anticipated. She came in to check on him when she was not working, the day he was to discharge even though he did not end up leaving. Kaelyn also wears an LGBT pin. I believe this helps patients know she is in support and can help patients of the community have a safe ally on our floor.
Kaelyn forms personal relationships with all her patients. She goes above and beyond to make patients feel heard. Just this last week she took the time to take a long-term patient down to the healing gardens in a wheelchair. I also found her sitting at bedside bonding with another patient who has had multiple re-admissions. She reminds me of how to be more compassionate and use my time wisely to make spending quality patients possible. She's also always willing to help staff members even when she herself is busy. Thanks, Kaelyn, for all your hard work!
