Safety, courtesy and respect, patient education, and careful listening are four categories of the patient experience that Dayton Children's strives to deliver with every patient. It's because of nurses like Michelle Lamprecht who make this happen. Michelle is the coordinator of a very busy team in developmental pediatrics. She has an amazing ability to coordinate several providers and patients' needs in a smooth and efficient manner. The busy nature of the clinic provides her many opportunities to contribute to the positive patient experience that Dayton Children's guarantees.
Unfortunately, Michelle is retiring soon and her journey will soon come to an end. One family's reaction to the news was met with fear and sadness. As tears ran down her face, the mother of a patient exclaimed, "No you can't leave, we need you!" The patient had groundbreaking surgery with several surgeons assisting on the case.
Michelle coordinated several appointments and services that needed to be set up and made several phone calls. She spent countless hours ensuring this family had a positive patient experience. She made sure the mother understood exactly what was going to happen. Michelle listened intently to her concerns, answered her questions and attempted to calm her worries. After the surgery, there was some miscommunication and the family arrived for a post-op appointment that wasn't scheduled. The clinic was already overbooked, but Michelle recognized the need for this patient to be seen. Michelle greeted the family, told them they would be seen and gave them food vouchers because they had driven a long distance and hadn't eaten. The mother of the patient wrote a letter saying, "Dayton Children's has been wonderful in every aspect of our journey. As a first time mom, it was very emotional finding out my daughter would have an extreme facial disfigurement. I was scared and full of questions. Upon my first visit with the doctor and the team, I was put at ease. From the support of the team during my pregnancy, to helping me find resources through the family resource center after she was born. I have been extremely pleased and comforted in knowing I have such a wonderful group in my corner. I love that the clinic nurse, Michelle, is only a phone call away and is always willing to help with any need or concern I may have."
