Nurses on Phoebe's 3 East and 4 East floors respectively provide services that I feel go unacknowledged a great majority of the time. Nurses on the behavioral health floors work as members of a multidisciplinary team where collaborating with other providers in treatment planning and interventions occurs on a daily basis. Nurses on these floors understand the importance of integrated behavioral care and how much more effective treatment outcomes are for patients that have their primary care providers, psychiatrists, therapists, nurses and techs all working together.
It is not uncommon for any member of our staff to go above and beyond in their efforts to assist our unique patients and the difficult situations that they often find themselves in while admitted to our floor. One particular patient admitted to our floor found himself in an extremely difficult situation, where he had no family or friends to support him and nowhere to live upon discharge. In addition, the patient was battling depression, feeling suicidal, undergoing dialysis treatment and experiencing dangerously low blood sugar levels, all while facing the reality of being homeless and having to sleep on the streets for the first time in his life.
Nurse Rosylind Martin went the extra mile to advocate for this patient when he no longer had the will to do so for himself, and through her sheer determination and "never give up on a patient" spirit, we were able to secure 24 hour, supervised residential housing for him where he could receive the care he needed and the time it will take for him to get his life back on the right track.
Though this patient's gratitude to nurse Rosylind may have been enough for her, I feel as though her honor, compassion and care for this patient clearly demonstrates how her actions keep with the highest traditions of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital's vision to provide world-class health care with hometown commitment, mission to deliver the best possible care and exceed the expectations of all we serve, and values to our people, relationships, reputation, excellence, efficiency, and commitment.
