It is easy for a family to notice a hardworking nurse when she spends hours with the family at the bedside. But what about the nurse advocating for the patient in the operating room? What about the long nights doing a heart transplant, hours of placing a patient on ECMO, and making sure the surgeon has everything he needs, while simultaneously looking out for the best interest of the patient? Marianne is that nurse.
Always having the patient's best interest in mind, she will speak up at any time for a patient's needs. Everything that Marianne does is meticulous and well planned. She has put in years of dedication to All Children's Hospital and has greatly impacted the little hearts of the hospital. Even on the most difficult days, she has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She is never afraid of a challenge. Marianne is also very active in the Heart Center. She participates and facilitates many social outings for the staff and makes everyone feel like they are a part of the family. I have witnessed, on numerous occasions, Marianne offering to help when another employee needs someone to take their call, or needs to be relieved for lunch.
Not only is Marianne a fabulous CVOR nurse, she has cross-trained in other areas in order to be flexible and accommodate any needs for the Heart Center. It takes a lot of time and training to learn about each different specialty. Every area has different doctors and performs different types of procedures. I have been called in for the cath lab, and Marianne instantly stopped what she was doing to make sure that our nurse had everything needed. Marianne has been our hero on many occasions. She is also involved in leading shared governance for the Heart Center. Clearly, she is an all-around rock star in the Heart Center, and it wouldn't be the same without her.
***
Marianne is a strong patient advocate and goes above and beyond to meet the needs of the patients, families and her peers. Marianne will help any of her peers within Heart Center. Her vast knowledge base of the cardiac catheterization lab and the CVOR allows her to be a great resource for both departments. Marianne is very deserving of the DAISY Award, and it's great to see an unsung hero, behind the surgical mask, recognized for her dedication to patient care.
Thank you, Marianne, for your service excellence to All Children's Hospital and your commitment to our patients and families.
