Chris is a wonderful nurse who displays great knowledge and leadership. She is the type of nurse you would want to take care of you, not only because of her great skills but also because of her compassion. She is a very strong leader for our organization and our 9 West Doan team.
Chris was completing a dressing change on a patient (named SB) whose loved one (SW) was badly injured and in the ICU. SB was very emotionally distraught because he was scared and worried about his loved one/partner, SW. SB and his loved one were not officially related so Chris could not tell him anything about SW's condition (which was not good).
Chris not only emotionally comforted her patient during his dressing change, but she went out of her way to find family/support for her patient. After the dressing change, Chris independently went down to the ICU waiting room to find SW's family so they can support her patient SB and let him know how his partner was doing.
Chris not only realized her patient needed support but also that the patient in the ICU and her family needed support.
SW's family was not in the ICU waiting room but that did not stop Chris. She decided to go and try multiple areas including the surgery waiting room. That is where she found SB's family. SW's family was so thankful as they were also wondering how SB was doing.
SW's family visited SB and they all sat together waiting and hoping arm in arm. Chris went out of her way to make sure that connection happened.
Chris knew that this was a very difficult time and wanted to make sure everyone was supported. She went above and beyond to find support for her patient, but it also was very helpful for the patient (whom Chris never met) in the ICU and their family. Chris understands things on a different level. She does a wonderful job treating everyone (including coworkers) as she would want to be treated.
