Jen is a beacon of joy and brings a refreshing rejuvenation to the unit. She is the nurse on the unit who will be there to lend a hand before you have to ask. One of the many special qualities she possesses is her innate ability to connect with patients on a personal level. By the end of the shift she is not just the patient/patient's family's nurse, but their friend. In the time she has been on our unit, she has established lasting relationships with the physicians, nurses and other hospital staff. Her selfless nature and genuine compassion for her coworkers and patient population is one of the many reasons I believe she is a DAISY Nurse.
There is one particular situation that stands out in my mind. She had a patient with a new diagnosis of a glioblastoma. The patient and family were distraught and bewildered. She was able to tactfully guide the patient and family through the day of tests, procedures, and exams with a confident and optimistic demeanor. Her compassion and empathy for the patient and family's well-being during their time of need helped the family to cope with the situation. She was able to redirect their angst and help them focus on the things they could control, like being there for one another. She was able to swiftly come to the need of her patient and their family when they really needed her. Nursing can be a stressful and at times frustrating job. However, Jen takes the challenges she faces in stride and provides her patients with a calming effect in times of uncertainty and distress. Jen is an exemplary employee, but more importantly, she is a terrific person. I am very proud to call her my friend and my coworker. Each shift, I see her excel and grow, while touching the lives of the patients and staff she works with. I am very confident that she will make a lasting mark in the field of nursing and at Orlando Health.
