Jeanna epitomizes the kind of nurse I would want to care for me or my family in the event of hospitalization. With every patient she offers compassion and empathy and tailors cares to what the patient and family need to progress.
Of the many situations I could describe the one that is top of mind is about a withdrawn patient who appeared to have given up the will to live after complications from elective surgery. With sensitivity and honesty Jeanna had difficult but necessary conversations with the patient and family. The patient challenged her asking why it even mattered and she told this person that she cared about them and shared a personal story that related to the situation and showed a sincerity and vulnerability that moved the patient. It created a positive breakthrough with how the patient perceived our staff and moved the patient's care forward. Jeanna has been my mentor at work since my first day and she continuously gives more and more to patients, the staff, and the organization. We are all very fortunate to have Jeanna at OHSU and in patient care in general. She is exemplary and is very deserving of the DAISY award.
