I am happy to nominate my peer because of her exceptional patience and kindness in the most difficult situations. I watched Winnie sit with a patient in her cluster who was combative and trying to remove her IVs, Foley, etc. The patient had gone through a difficult few days including admission to the cluster, a biopsy and terminal diagnosis. The patient was afraid. Winnie calmly told her "It is Winnie - I am here." When the family arrived and were told the results, they were overcome with emotion. Winnie gave them their space and advised them to take one day at a time. She told them the best thing they could do was to support their mom and stay by her side during the difficult journey. One could tell that the sound of Winnie's confident voice was soothing to the patient and family. Winnie's calm nature and approach to situations makes her an asset to our floor. I am proud to have as a coworker and as a part of our team.
