“Patty is an integral part of 5 Main that exemplifies all the criteria of a DAISY. Patty is a very skilled clinician having been among the first advanced practice nurses at Baptist, she regularly precepts new ARNPs to the “Baptist way”. She is very competent and professional often assisting doctors with the risk management and other complex cases we often see on 5 Main. She is kind and gentle with the patients often going to visit them in the ICU when their level of care needs increase, families often remember and ask about Patty…Patty is family focused and assists families at very difficult times often being in family meetings or discussions that can last up to an hour or more.
Even though Patty’s job may have set hours, we will see her long after her time to go home, assisting staff with codes, ICU transfers, and end of life issues. The staff on 5 Main is often waiting to see when the door to the ARNP office is open so we know she is here to assist and guide us. She is committed to excellence by teaching nurses on 5 Main the correct and safe way to do things, she educates other units on the policies of patient safety, often going to other units and assisting with orders to expedite care. Patty may be an ARNP with the responsibilities of overseeing patient care but she is often found at the bedside starting IVs, getting tissues or water, or just listening during times of need.”
