Since having worked here as a float pool CNA from 2012-2014, I've noticed many new faces in the nursing staff since I returned as a PA student. In that sense, I think Sue has been the ballast of the telemetry unit through its transition from A1 to 1 West. She is an excellent leader and collaborator. She is quick to help out any nurse or CNA who is in need of help or overwhelmed. She is always working and never complaining; a true example.
Sue is also an excellent advocate for her patients. Just the other day, my preceptor and I were starting off our Monday morning reading about patients, getting our bearings and drinking some coffee. Sue saw us and brought up a patient she believed had an acute surgical abdomen. She insisted we see the patient first and without delay. In a typical Sue fashion, she communicated her concern, and sense of urgency with professionalism and respect. Sure enough, the patient entered the OR within the hour, thanks in large part to Sue's handle of the situation and advocacy. I'm still just as happy to see her and work with her two years later as a PA Student. If any of my family members or loved ones were sick enough to be admitted, I would have a real comfort entrusting their care to a nurse like Sue McDonald.
